Description from the seller
Grenzhausen Porcelain Factory – Baby Jesus blessing with cross – Biscuit – Germany, ca. 1900-1915
Elegant German devotional sculpture in white porcelain biscuit, depicting the Baby Jesus blessing, shown standing on a square base, with a small cross tightly held in the left hand and the right hand raised in the gesture of blessing.
The figure presents a particularly delicate composition: slightly inclined head, gathered and infantile expression, and the soft flow of the folds of the robe give the sculpture an intimate and contemplative character. Notable is the care given to the details of the face, hair, hands, and feet.
On the underside of the base are the model number “301”, the inscription “Germany” and a circular manufacturing mark with interwoven letters, referring to Grenzhausen production, an important German center of ceramic and porcelain manufacturing. The number 301 identifies the model within the factory’s production.
The presence of the inscription “Germany”, together with the typology of the mark and the stylistic and productive characteristics, allows placing the sculpture plausibly at the beginning of the 20th century, about 1900-1915.
Dimensions: about 31 × 11 × 8.5 cm.
The piece presents in overall good condition, with normal signs and light superficial alterations compatible with age. A missing/damaged finger on the right blessing hand is noted, clearly documented in the close-up photographs. The images constitute an integral part of the description and should be examined carefully for a full assessment of the conservation status.
An interesting object of sacred art and private devotion, particularly decorative even in a collection of European porcelain, religious sculptures, or within a classical and refined setting.
Packaging will be carried out with special care given the biscuit’s fragility. Ankerior specializes in art logistics, with training at Palazzo Spinelli in Florence in the packaging, handling, transport and logistics of works of art and cultural assets. The sculpture will thus be adequately protected for transport.
