Description from the seller
Ecce Homo – Hand-painted, crucified Christ with a crown of thorns on porcelain with a silvered metal frame – 19th century
Refined devotional plaque from the 19th century depicting Christ crowned with thorns – Ecce Homo, created through hand-painted polychrome on an oval porcelain plaque.
Christ’s face is rendered with notable delicacy: gaze lifted upward, the crown of thorns, small traces of blood on the forehead and chest, and the soft modulation of the flesh give the image a strong expressive intensity. The nuances of the face and beard are particularly pleasing, executed with fine, precise painting.
The plaque is set in an elegant silvered metal frame, richly worked with carved and pierced vegetal motifs. The top is finished with a cross, an element that further emphasizes the devotional purpose of the object.
On the back is a characteristic easel foot, allowing the plaque to be displayed on a console, desk, shelf, or within a collection of sacred art.
The piece shows a pleasant patina of time, with natural signs and surface oxidation of the metal part appropriate to its age. The painted porcelain appears very well preserved, retaining vivid colors and a nice luster. See the numerous photographs, which are an integral part of the description and document the condition accurately.
