Tannoy MERCURI V1 from 2013, handcraftedly modified to improve harmonicity and sensitivity with birch multi-ply wooden horns and an internally reworked bass to increase low-frequency response.
All components are original Tannoy Mercury V1 except the RCA pins changed to a higher-end model (gold version) and the feet not present in the original version.
The horns have an external diameter of 14 cm and a depth of 17 cm, machined on a lathe.
The total cabinet height with the feet is 63 cm.
The original characteristics before modification were as follows:
Amplifier power recommended from 10 to 70 Watts RMS
Peak 100 Watts and 50 Watts continuous RMS
Sensitivity 2.83 volts at 1 meter, 86 dB
Impedance 8 ohms
Frequency response (-6 dB) 45 Hz – 25 kHz
Tweeter 25 mm polyester dome with neodymium magnet
Woofer 130 mm cone coated with multi-fiber shielding
4th-order Linkwitz–Riley cross-over
The cabinets were clad after the modifications with matte red adhesive film and the front panel in suede leather in Sonos Faber style
The front panel is MDF as are the rest of the external panels of the cabinets.
The sound is noticeably better than the original specifications.
