Character wearing a mask
Mossi culture, Burkina Faso.
Height: 42 cm

Beautiful and rare representation of a character wearing an animal mask. There are few examples of statues bearing such a traditional mask. This is an animal mask, probably a buffalo.
The style is mastered, the volumes are well rendered. The body is taut, the figure is alert, concentrated. He clearly has a mission, a function to honor. His presence is gentle and powerful. It is a lifelike object. The sculptor managed to breathe life into it. Beautiful old patina. A fine antique and authentic collectible piece. Circa 1950.

Provenance: Galerie Noir d'Ivoire, Paris.
