Description from the seller
An authentic amulet of elegance, prestige and prosperity for your home!
In the secular Sicilian tradition, the pinecone is far more than a simple decorative element: it is the universal symbol of life, fertility, vital force and good luck. Positioned at the entrance, on a console or on a prestigious bookshelf, it infuses character and warmth into any environment, from classical to contemporary.
Caltagirone is the undisputed capital of artistic maiolica, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its baroque expressions and the priceless tradition of pottery. This work bears the hand signature of master Concu, a local artisan workshop renowned for faithfully continuing the techniques of manual modeling. Each scale (or bract) was shaped and applied individually by hand with sculptural skill before firing and glazing.
The bell-shaped base is enriched by volutes and acanthus leaf motifs typical of Calatino baroque in warm ochre and cobalt tones, topped by an extraordinary petrol/emerald green glaze, bright and deep.
The Concu-signed ceramics from Caltagirone belong to the circuit of the historic Calatine artisan workshops dedicated to the traditional production of pine cones, Moor’s heads and monumental vases.
The value of this sculpture lies in the protection mark of Traditional Artistic Ceramics of Caltagirone, safeguarded by UNESCO for its historical-artistic value.
