Description from the seller
Elegant Wood and Brass Base - The Giant Triton — One of the most scenographic shells, this Charonia tritonis is an authentic masterpiece of nature. The shell, sourced from the waters of Madagascar, stands out for its powerful structure and hypnotic pattern: a regular sequence of zigzag bands that alternate brown tones, ivory and caramel, creating a vibrant, almost graphic pattern. The interior, with its intense orange cavity, adds a warm and surprising note, enhanced by the contrast with the lighter exterior surfaces. The specimen is mounted on a solid turned wood base with brass support, for a stable and refined presentation, ideal both for decorating a contemporary space and for enriching a natural history collection. Belonging to the family Charoniidae, the Triton’s trumpet is known not only for its size but also for the ecological role it plays: it is one of the few natural predators of the crown-of-thorns starfish (Acanthaster planci), responsible for damage to the coral reef. Each specimen is unique and unrepeatable, and this one, in particular, stands out for the quality of preservation, the clarity of the form, and the strength of the design. An object that blends science, aesthetics and curiosity, ready to become the visual centerpiece of any environment.
