Large commemorative medal issued by Edel Collecties in 2022, dedicated to Paleis Lange Voorhout in The Hague and its connection with the Dutch Royal House.
Obverse:
View of the façade of Paleis Lange Voorhout, with a flag in front of the building. At lower right, an enlarged architectural detail is shown in contrasting silver-coloured relief.
Inscription:

The design combines a dark ruthenium-effect background with strongly contrasting silver-coloured details.
Reverse:
A large crowned shield containing seven portrait busts, arranged around a central portrait. The portraits refer to members of the Dutch Royal House.
Legend:

The portrait busts are executed in a contrasting cameo-style finish.

Context:
Paleis Lange Voorhout in The Hague became closely connected with the Dutch Royal House after Queen Mother Emma purchased the building in 1896. Following an extensive renovation, she moved into the palace in 1901 and used it as her winter residence. It was subsequently used mainly as a working palace by Wilhelmina, Juliana and Beatrix. In 1990 the building was sold to the municipality of The Hague, on the condition that it would be used for cultural purposes. Since 2002 it has housed Escher in Het Paleis, dedicated to the work of M.C. Escher. Museum Escher in Het Paleis
The medal forms part of Edel Collecties’ “Nationaal Erfgoed” theme and, according to the accompanying certificate, was issued in a limited edition of 100 pieces.
