Description from the seller
Cleoniceras Ammonite with Hematite Mineralization and Natural Pyrite Traces – Cretaceous – Madagascar
An elegant Cleoniceras ammonite from the Lower Cretaceous of Madagascar, dating to approximately 110 million years ago. Beautifully polished, this specimen reveals the intricate architecture of its fossilized shell, enhanced by dark hematite-rich mineralization and delicate traces of natural pyrite.
The ammonite displays a sophisticated palette of deep black, dark chocolate brown, and gunmetal grey, enriched by subtle silvery reflections across its polished surface. Particularly attractive are the small areas of natural pyrite, appearing as irregular patches of fine golden and bronze-toned crystallization. These localized mineral formations provide a fascinating contrast to the predominantly dark shell.
One of the most remarkable features is the exceptional visibility of the ammonitic suture lines. These intricate, fern-like patterns extend across much of the specimen, forming an elaborate network of delicate, winding outlines. Their lighter coloration stands out beautifully against the darker mineralized background, emphasizing the extraordinary complexity of the original shell structure.
The well-defined central spiral adds depth and balance to the composition, while the polished surface highlights subtle variations in color, texture, and mineral preservation. Small natural imperfections and localized mineralized areas remain visible, reflecting the fossil's geological history and individual character.
The contrast between the dark hematite-rich tones, the finely preserved suture patterns, and the discreet golden pyrite traces creates a particularly refined aesthetic. Each side offers a slightly different arrangement of patterns and mineral coloration, making the specimen visually interesting from multiple perspectives.
Cleoniceras ammonites from Madagascar are highly appreciated for their distinctive spiral geometry, elaborate suture structures, and the remarkable variety of mineralization developed during fossilization.
This example combines these characteristics in a compact and beautifully polished natural sculpture.
The specimen is supplied with the clear acrylic display stand shown in the photographs.
Locality: Madagascar
Geological Age: Lower Cretaceous, approximately 110 million years old
Mineralization: Hematite-rich mineralization with natural pyrite traces
A beautiful fossil combining paleontological interest with elegant natural aesthetics, ideal for a fossil collection, a sophisticated interior display, or a carefully curated cabinet of curiosities.
