Console table - Wood - wooden wall console

Vintage wooden wall console – organic mid-century form – 1960s

Atmospheric and unusually designed wooden wall console from the 1960s, finished in a deep dark brown wood color with a warm red-brown undertone. The elongated, almost shield-shaped backplate tapers elegantly and gives the whole a pronounced sculptural look.

Halfway there is a semi-circular wall shelf, supported by a sober wooden console. It is precisely this combination of functionality and organic design that fits well within the mid-century interior tradition of the 1950s and 60s, in which wall furniture had to be compact, decorative and practical. Comparable wall shelves from the 1960s are often made in dark wood, teak, veneer, or plywood and combine a warm wood tone with simple, flowing lines.

This console is lovely as a holder for, for example, a small figurine, ceramic piece, vase, or other decorative objects. Its vertical form takes up little space while still being visually strong.
