Description from the seller
Autograph letter signed by Victor Hugo, poet, playwright and indispensable figure of French literature. The letter is dated 3 July without a year.
Written in black ink on blue-tinged laid paper.
In this letter, Victor Hugo thanks his correspondence for sending a collection of poems, which he deems curious and interesting, and presents his homage.
"3 July
Here, Madam, is the very curious and very interesting collection of [poems], and I thank you for your gracious favor, and I place all my homage at your feet.."
The back of the letter bears a mounted photographic portrait of John Ruskin accompanied by a visiting card reading "Professor Ruskin. C.C.C. Oxford. Brantwood, Coniston."
Dimensions: 11.9 x 19.1 cm
Condition: Letter: Fragile paper, tears along the central fold and margins, with small losses of paper not affecting the text. Photograph and CDV: pronounced mounting traces on the stiff paper support, photograph and visiting card well preserved. See photos for details.
