Vintage porcelain half-doll pincushion featuring a female figure in pink and white attire, mounted on a textile tiered champagne/gold skirt and standing about 15 cm tall, dating to circa 1920s–1930s.
Description from the seller
Antique Porcelain Half Doll Pincushion Lady with Fan Original Silk Dress c.1920s
Full listing description
Charming antique porcelain half doll pincushion, dating approximately to the 1920s–1930s, featuring an elegant period lady holding a large fan beside her head.
The porcelain figure has finely modelled features with a tall curled grey/white hairstyle, delicately painted face and soft pastel colouring. She wears a pale pink jacket over a white bodice, with her left hand resting across her chest. Her raised right hand holds a particularly attractive pale green moulded fan, giving the figure a graceful and unusual pose.
The half doll is mounted into what appears to be her original period textile pincushion skirt, constructed in multiple tiers of gathered champagne/gold fabric to create a full bell-shaped gown. The surviving original costume adds greatly to the character and decorative appeal of the piece.
Measurements:
Porcelain doll: approximately 5 cm high
Overall height including skirt: approximately 15 cm
Condition
The porcelain appears to be in very good antique condition from the photographs, with the delicate fingers, arms and fan appearing intact. I cannot see any obvious chips, cracks or repairs.
The original fabric skirt shows the expected age-related fading, discolouration, creasing and general wear associated with antique textiles, but importantly it remains substantially intact and retains its attractive tiered form.
Please study all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the description and condition report.
An attractive surviving example of an early porcelain half doll / pincushion doll, particularly appealing because of the raised fan and surviving period costume.
Period: c.1920s–1930s
Material: Glazed porcelain and textile
Height: 15 cm overall / 5 cm porcelain figure
Maker: Unmarked/unknown unless a mark is found beneath the skirt
Condition: Very good antique porcelain; age-related wear to original textiles
