Description from the seller
Unique and currently unavailable on the Internet, this copy is signed by Pentti Sammallahti on the title page. It is the second 2013 edition, exactly identical to the 2012 edition, which is already sold out. 256 pages and more than 200 full-page black-and-white photographs, text in French by Finn Thrane and Kristoffer Albrecht, gray cloth binding with a mounted photograph on the cover, title printed in a debossed tone-on-tone on the cover and back. In excellent condition.
First retrospective monograph of the master of Finnish photography, this work allows us to discover the fascinating body of Pentti Sammallahti’s work: “Here in the distance is a retrospective covering more than forty years of photographic work in almost as many countries; a scavenger of landscapes – wild, transformed, unusual – the Finnish photographer reveals a fragile universe that harmoniously comes together. The finesse of Pentti Sammallahti’s execution, his printing technique and his personal poetry combine in intense frescoes of bucolic landscapes where humans and objects dissolve into this abundant, surreal and melancholy nature. ‘Here in the distance’ asserts itself as an invitation to the discovery of the essential, to the liberation from the spatio-temporal frame. Pentti Sammallahti teaches, to those who know how to listen, the contemplation of what exists. (Céline DUVAL, Exhibition curators)
“Wandering vast territories, often remote, and wide virgin or sparsely populated spaces, Pentti Sammallahti lets his quest for a particular light or an unsuspected horizon run free, using the panoramic format, of which he is one of the undisputed masters, his science of subtle contrasts and an exceptional palette of black-and-white tones. He creates a visual universe of a delicately lyrical and intensely poetic dimension.” (from https://www.livresphotos.com/....)
