Description from the seller
Unobtainable elsewhere in signed copies, this copy is exceptionally signed by Daido Moriyama on the title page in Japanese characters and with his first name in Latin characters. 304 pages of contact sheets reassembled, soft cover with illustrated dust jacket.
In 2012, Daido Moriyama revisited about 10,000 of his images to create Labyrinth. Far from the idea of revealing contact sheets, the artist combines on a single sheet negatives from different eras tracing recurring motifs and offering new, surprising interpretations of some of his most iconic photographs.
In this maze of images, places and years constantly overlap. The world of Japanese popular theater (Japan A Photo Theater Album, 1968) blends with images of a frightened child (1973). Netted stockings (1986) pair with a pair of high heels. A hotel room in New York and a television screen (1971) convey the feeling of a tormented artist.
Daido Moriyama states here that what links these photographs is less the place where they were taken or the date on which they were produced than the subjects, the graphic play, the associations of meaning. He photographed with obsession the illuminated signs, torn posters, geometric shapes, the bodies of women; the streets of Tokyo, Paris, New York or elsewhere are "like the scattered pieces of a puzzle that can never be reassembled."
Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition (as new), kept with the utmost care. Very effective protective shipping and international postal tracking guaranteed. In case of multiple purchases, possibility of grouped shipping with reimbursement of overpaid postage via PayPal.
