Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Italian Baroque-style wall mirror (Specchierina), wood covered with stucco, dating to the mid‑20th century (circa 1930–1950), in good condition with some wear and age marks.
Description from the seller
Recently appraised as a classic example of Florence craftsmanship, this elegant small wall mirror in Italian Baroque style (specchierina model) was made in the mid-20th century (circa 1930–1950).
The sturdy frame is traditionally crafted in wood covered with finely molded stucco. The entire frame features a uniform patinated gold finish, which also covers its reverse side. The sculpted décor unfolds a complete repertoire of Italian Baroque and Rococo ornamentation:
• A top crest crowned by a cherub head with a botanical plume.
• The side uprights adorned with winged mermaids or mythological chimeras.
• An expressive grotesque mascaron at the base.
• A beaded relief frieze encircling the glass directly.
The back of the mirror retains its original red felt protection as well as its triangular metal hanging ring. A very beautiful retro piece with lots of relief, perfect to integrate a classical touch or a Cabinet of Curiosities into a contemporary interior.
Note a small flaw along the edge.
As with all my items put up for auction on this site, this beauty has undergone no cleaning (just dusting) or modification since purchase.
Happy bidding to all.
