French portico clock dating to circa 1850–1900, in wood with brass details, 65 × 27 × 19 cm and about 7 kg, mechanical movement with an 8‑day power reserve, strikes the bell on the hour and half‑hour, with winding key and original glass dome.
Description from the seller
French mantel clock from the Napoleonic III period, ca. 1850–1870, presented under the original glass dome on an oval plinth.
The case is of ebonised wood with fine marquetry inlay of lighter wood: vines, flowers and borders on the pediment, the lower moulding and the plinth. The hood rests on four turned Solomonic columns with gilded capitals and feet.
The white enamel dial with Roman numerals is signed Dorsan Breveté à Paris. It sits in a richly worked gilded lunette surround with putti and rocaille ornamentation. The pendulum has a decorative grille and a gilded lens with an angel in a medallion.
The round Paris clock strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell. The movement, pendulum hook and pendulum all bear the same number (338), so the parts belong together.
Condition: good condition, appropriate for its age. There are hairline cracks in the enamel of the dial. The black finish shows small wear spots and minor blemishes. The gilding is attractive, with light wear. The clock runs and strikes. Key present. The dome is undamaged.
Shipping: carefully packed. The movement will be secured and the pendulum separately packed. Can also be picked up in the Netherlands.
