Description from the seller
Exceptionally beautiful antique fire-gilt bronze pendulum clock, richly decorated with a sculptural representation of Cupid and Venus.
The top is crowned by an elegant fountain in the shape of a heraldic dolphin, a beloved decorative motif from the French Directory period.
This museum-quality timepiece was made in Paris and dates from the Directory period, circa 1795. It forms a splendid example of refined French clockmaking from the late 18th century, in which classical mythology and superb bronze casting harmoniously come together.
The rectangular base is richly decorated with a high-quality relief depicting Neptune in his chariot, drawn by hippocampi and accompanied by a water nymph.
In addition, the pendulum is fitted with numerous finely wrought ornaments, including dolphins, crabs, a classical vase, and Cupid's bow and arrow, which reinforce the mythological character of the whole.
The condition of this exceptional pendulum is excellent.
A rare museum-worthy collectible of exceptional artistic and historical value, which impressively embodies the elegance of the French Directory style.
Dimensions: 47 cm high x 40 cm wide x 15 cm deep.
All our clocks have been fully overhauled and are in excellent condition. Of course, they run properly and are delivered complete with pendulum, key, and our guarantee of proper operation.
NB: The pendule is shipped with the dolphin and the little base at the top packed separately. You can simply reassemble them yourself. This is to prevent damage during transport.
