AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

A rare Thonet model Nr. 10 chair, dating to around 1865; this is the initial version of the model, featuring a seat that does not curve up over the capitals—unlike later versions produced from approximately 1885/1890 onwards.

As the earliest iteration of the flat-seat design, it features a firm, taut cane seat. The chair is in excellent condition, free of woodworm or missing parts, and retains all original components, including the screws. The letter "B" is stamped on the underside of the seat (compare with the accompanying photo of a Thonet seat bearing the same mark).

Unfortunately, the paper label beneath the seat has been lost; however, the letter "B" stamped underneath confirms its authenticity as a Thonet product, distinguishing it from those of competitors.
Heat-branded "Thonet" marks were introduced around 1870.

This model also appears in the 1886 Thonet catalog (as shown in the photo).

The Thonet Model 10 is highly prized by collectors Thonet especially its initial version for its simple, slender, and functional design—making it not only practical to use but also an object to be admired and appreciated.
Like the Model No. 14, it is suitable for furnishing any type of setting, from aristocratic villas to modern interiors.
The Thonet Model No. 10 is also on display at the Boppard Museum (Boppard, Germany, as shown in the photograph) and at the MAK in Vienna, within the museum's Thonet collection.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, Michael Thonet’s bentwood creations revolutionized the furnishing of cafés and art studios.

Thonet furniture was used and appreciated by painters such as Pablo Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec, Suzanne Valadon, Maurice Utrillo, Amedeo Modigliani and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, as well as Italian painters like Giuseppe De Nittis, Giovanni Boldini and Antonio Ligabue.

The dimensions are:

Total height: 94,5 cm,
