Atlas de Poche Universel, published by Kümmerly & Frey, is part of the Atlante tascabile mini series and covers the world.
Description from the seller
This fascinating "Atlas de Poche Universel" is a rare and valuable pocket cartography work published in Geneva in the early decades of the twentieth century (circa 1910-1920) by the celebrated publisher J.-H. Jeheber.
The work appears in its first and most sought-after editorial variant: a brick-red cardboard folder-wallet that houses, instead of a bound volume, a complete set of 20 loose and independent geographical maps. Each plate is printed on semi-rigid cardboard (format similar to an old postcard) and is finely reproduced in multi-color chromolithography, a technical achievement entrusted to the prestigious Swiss institute Kümmerly & Frey of Bern.
The atlas, sold at the time at a popular price of 50 cents, united the practicality of the pocket format with the scientific rigor of the era. The front of each card shows the physical and political cartography of the various areas of the globe (from the individual continents to the great world powers), while the back hosts a rich and detailed apparatus of statistical tables on population, geography, and trade, continually updated and curated by specialist W.-H. Jeheber. A historical document of great interest that captures with extraordinary precision the borders and global geopolitics of the early twentieth century.
Dimensions 9 x 10.5 cm
