Nuovissimo Atlante di Geografia Fisica e Politica, authored by Giuseppe Pennesi and Roberto Almagià and published by G. B. Paravia & C., covers the whole world and dates to 1921–1950, in good condition with colour-printed plates and measuring 31 by 34 cm.
Description from the seller
This imposing "Very New Atlas of Physical and Political Geography" represents a fundamental pillar of Italian cartographic teaching and dissemination in the first half of the twentieth century. The work, published in Turin by the prestigious publishing house G. B. Paravia & C., is historically placed between approximately 1925 and 1933.
The volume bears the signatures of two eminent scientists: the geographer Giuseppe Pennesi and the illustrious academic Prof. Roberto Almagià, one of the foremost historians of Italian geography and cartography of the twentieth century, who oversaw the entire scientific update of this "very new edition". The illustrative apparatus is monumental and of absolute rigor, consisting of a complete corpus of 53 color-printed cartographic plates (of which 11 are printed on double pages), dedicated to physical, political, and thematic geography of the entire globe. The volume is also enriched by a very useful Handbook for the explanation of geographical names, designed to facilitate study and the correct pronunciation of international toponymy.
An exceptional element of historical and collectible interest is visible on the lower margin of the title page: the presence of the original paper duty stamp worth 10 centimes of the Kingdom of Italy (from the series "Mercurio novissimo"), affixed at the time as a mandatory state stamp for school texts approved by the Ministry. This detail not only enhances the copy but also certifies its authenticity and its precise historical-administrative framing in Italy of the era.
Dimensions 31 x 34 cm
