Eight Bronze Age arrowheads, five trilobate and three flat, six socketed and two with a solid tang, bearing patination and earthly encrustations with chips to blades and barbs, each blade measuring 2.2–4.2 cm, provenance Ex. London Collection.
Description from the seller
A group of eight Bronze Age arrowheads, with five being trilobate and the other three flat. Six of the arrowheads feature a socket, used to attach the wooden shaft of the arrow. The remaining two have a solid tang instead. Patination and earthly encrustations to the surface as well as inside the sockets. Chips to the blades and barbs.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the Western Asiatic area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Archaeological evidence suggests that the bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
Measurements: L 2.2-4.2cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
