Derrière le Miroir (DLM) was an art magazine published between 1946 and 1982 by the French publisher and gallerist Aimé Maeght of the Maeght Gallery, which for many years was the world’s leading gallery for contemporary art. The magazine was designed as an art object, presented in a large format (11" x 15"). It is illustrated with original lithographs as well as reproductions. Most of the major artists of the second half of the twentieth century created lithographs for DLM: Léger, Miro, Calder, Tapies, Chillida, Braque, Matisse, Giacometti and especially Chagall.
The edition of Behind The Mirror, DLM, accompanied every Maeght Gallery exhibition from 1946 to 1982. DLM, as it has been published for over thirty-five years, grew out of Aimé Maeght’s passion to edit and print. DLM was mailed individually to subscribers (which almost from the start seemed to include books and museums) and to the gallery’s collectors.
