Title: Antique Christofle Silver-Plated Carving Set (Knife & Fork) in Original Box – c. 1900
Description:
An exceptional and rare antique French silver-plated carving set (service à découper) by the prestigious silversmith Christofle Paris, dating from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.
The heavy silver-plated handles feature a refined classical Louis XVI pattern, beautifully detailed with fluted columns, ribbons, and acanthus leaves. The knife features its original antique carbon steel blade.
Both handles are clearly stamped with the "CHRISTOFLE" hallmark alongside the official square silver-plate manufacturer's mark used between 1862 and 1935.
The set comes in its original fitted presentation box, lined with deep green velvet and silk, featuring the prominent gold-gilded maker's stamp on the inner lid: “Christofle & Cie - Manufacture d'Orfèvrerie à Paris”.
Estimated Dimensions:
• Case: 35 cm (length) x 11 cm (width)
• Carving Knife: 32 cm (length)
• Carving Fork: 28 cm (length)
Condition:
The set is in very good antique condition for its age. The silver handles retain an excellent patina with light, honest wear. The carbon steel blade shows minor surface oxidation/shadowing, which is entirely characteristic of period steel, and retains a sharp edge. The original box remains sturdy and functional, showing normal signs of age and wear to the outer surface. A beautiful addition to any high-end silver collection or vintage dining table.
