Description from the seller
Offered: a beautiful IKORA glass vase in Art Deco style, manufactured in Germany in the period 1920–1930 of the last century by WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik). The vase has an elegant, organically shaped body with a wide flaring neck and is finished in warm green, yellow, brown and transparent shades. The decor consists of a particularly marbled and craquelé-like pattern that gives the vase a lively and artistic appearance, characteristic of glass art from the interwar period.
This vase is produced using the Ikora technique developed by WMF, in which different types of glass, colors and metal oxides are combined to create unique, glittering and marbled surfaces. The principal designer behind the Ikora glasswork was Karl Wiedmann, who worked as head of decorative arts at WMF from 1926 to 1945. Wiedmann was a contemporary of Andries Copier. This is also reflected in the designs and the often craquelé style. Wiedmann played a central role in the development of the Ikora technique and designed numerous iconic vases, bowls and glass objects that are now considered valuable collectibles. Most Ikora objects date from the late 1920s and early 1930s.
What makes this vase special is the intense green upper rim, which beautifully contrasts with the rich, flowing decoration of the body. The translucent glass creates an atmospheric play of light when the object is placed in daylight. Thanks to the elegant design and warm color palette, this vase forms a stylish decorative object that fits perfectly within an Art Deco, vintage or design interior.
