AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Daum Nancy, small pitcher in acid-etched frosted glass and enameled, "Dutch Landscapes", circa 1896

Rare and elegant small Art Nouveau pitcher from Daum Nancy, with an asymmetric and elegant profile, evoking a sail billowing in the wind. The acid-etched glass, with a finely granitized texture, offers a soft, milky surface on which an enameled décor in a grayscale tonal range unfolds.

Each face presents a different landscape, painted with great delicacy. On one side, windmills rise along a shore, among trees, a path, and a sky dotted with birds. On the other, a flotilla of sailing vessels glides over a calm water where hulls are reflected, under a cloudy sky. The blended tones and the finesse of the line recall seventeenth-century Dutch paintings, which Daum liked to cite in his early enameled productions.

Signed Daum Nancy with the Lorraine cross, as was the practice during 1893-1897.

Dimensions: 13.5 x 9.5 x 7 cm

Condition: Excellent. Handle absent (attachment point milled down), nothing else noteworthy to the eye.
