The HLE 26 locomotive was a type of electric locomotive for the NMBS from the 1960s. In 1964 and 1965 five prototypes were built as type 126 with numbers 126.001-126.005. From 1969 came the first series of 15 units with numbers 126.101-126.115. In 1971 the series was renumbered into a continuous series 26 with numbers 2601-2620. The follow-up series of another 15 units ordered in 1969 was delivered in 1971 and 1972 under the new numbers 2621-2635. The type 126/series 22 still belongs to the classic generation of type 122/series 22. The majority of these locomotives are found in combination with each other or (also in train consisting of multiple units) with locomotives of type 123/series 23, in heavy freight service. The first 5 units of this series were prototypes, and they have a lower power: 2240 kW; the remaining 30 have 2470 kW.
