Description from the seller
Pair of large Neapolitan 18th-century candlesticks – carved wood, lacquered and silvered to mecca – height 54 cm
Elegant and scenographic pair of candlesticks from Neapolitan manufacture of the 18th century, crafted in finely turned and carved wood, with refined ivory-toned decoration and leaf-silvering with mecca finish.
The two candlesticks feature a slender and particularly harmonious structure, marked by a succession of turned elements, moldings and carved vegetal motifs. The waisted shaft is enriched with vertical grooves, stylized leaves and pearled knots, while the polygonal base rests on three small turned feet.
Very beautiful the ancient surface, where the ivory background dialogues with the metallic reflections of the silvering. The light abrasions, color variations and traces of time have created an authentic and especially decorative patina, capable of conveying the character of an Italian eighteenth-century piece of furniture.
At the top both retain the oil dish and the antique metal point.
Particularly interesting is also the workmanship visible on the back: these are not objects decorated only on the front, but pieces conceived with an overall treatment of the shaft, a characteristic that greatly enhances their visual presence.
Dimensions:
Height: 54 cm
Maximum base width: about 15 cm
The pair is presented in excellent overall condition for its age, with small restorations, dents and finish wear, abrasions and normal signs of use compatible with over two centuries of history. These elements are clearly documented in the photographs and, in our opinion, contribute to the charm and authenticity of the pieces.
Interior design advice
A pair with a strong impact, ideal on a eighteenth-century console, a sideboard, a fireplace, a domestic altar or at the sides of a painting or antique mirror. Very interesting also for integration into contemporary and minimalist environments, where the contrast between the antique surface, the worn silvering and modern architectural lines can transform them into true sculptural elements.
Their height of 54 cm gives the pair a commanding presence without becoming overly monumental: a size particularly versatile for interior design projects, historic homes, boutique hotels or collections dedicated to Italian decorative arts.
Era: 18th century
Origin: Southern Italy
Manufacture: Neapolitan
Material: carved and turned wood, lacquer, leaf-silvering with mecca finish, metal
Quantity: pair
The photographs are an integral part of the description and accurately document the state of conservation, patina and construction details.
Professional packing and insured shipping.
