Description from the seller
Exceptionally rare, a title-page copy by Graciela Iturbide, unique and unavailable in a signed edition and rarer still in an unsigned edition. 140 pages and 84 black-and-white photographs printed full-page or, for some, double-page, Spanish text by Marta Gili. Black cloth binding with the title debossed in white on the back and with a mounted photograph on the cover. In excellent condition, practically as new.
Graciela Iturbide was born in Mexico City in 1942. At the end of the 1960s she began studies in cinema and, in the early 1970s, while she was an assistant to Manuel Álvarez Bravo, she trained in photography and soon devoted herself to it. During a trip to Europe at that time, she met Henri Cartier-Bresson, who exerted a major influence on her work. This photography book, at once subtle and powerful, blends evocative scenes drawn from the multiple subcultures of Iturbide’s homeland of Mexico with the artist’s deeply personal, and often surreal, vision. Iturbide’s work blends history, lyricism, and portraiture. She powerfully addresses the themes of identity and difference. The earth cracked by the sun contrasts with children's games, austere walls with ornate altars, daily life with celebrations. These oppositions reveal deeper conflicts related to the nature of the territory and of the body.
Excellent condition copy, practically as new. A book from my personal collection kept with the greatest care. Protected shipping with reinforced packaging and international tracking guaranteed. For multiple purchases there is the possibility of grouped shipping with a refund of any excess postage paid via Paypal.
