Mask - Vuvi - Gabon (No reserve price)

Moghondzi-Vuvi-Mask.
Like their neighbors (Kota, Fang, and Punu), the Vuvi venerate their ancestors through numerous rituals and ceremonies, called Bwete, to ensure the protection and survival of the village. The Vuvi's spirit masks are characterized by their relatively broad design and the symbolic nature of the facial features and markings. These masks serve as intermediaries through which ancestral spirits reappear during the ceremonies. It is believed that the masks represent the spiritual entities of Kombe (the Sun), Ngonde (the Moon), Minanga (the Stars), and Ngadi (the Thunder).
