A rare lot of four Fornasetti Milano textile panels titled Gerusalemme di Notte, dating to 1980–1990, in cream cotton, measuring three panels at 240 by 40 cm and one shortened panel at 170 by 40 cm, produced in Italy and in good used condition.
Description from the seller
Rare lot, no longer in production, of 4 original Fornasetti fabric panels. Design "Jerusalem by Night": a view of a hillside town in an engraving style, with domes, crenellated walls and cypress trees, in ochre, gray and pink tones. In the upper part appear the classic Fornasetti motifs of amphorae, sun and moon.
Piero Fornasetti is one of the most original figures in Italian design of the twentieth century: painter, decorator, sculptor and printer, he created thousands of objects, ranging from textiles to ceramics, from furniture to lacquers. His collaboration with architect Gio Ponti is famous. His style arises from old engravings and prints, reinterpreted with a black graphic line enriched by touches of color, in a surreal play between classical memory and fantasy.
The motif "Jerusalem by Night" is one of the best known examples.
The set consists of three panels measuring 240 x 40 cm and one panel of 170 x 40 cm as it has been partly used and a bit shortened. This characteristic does not compromise its decorative value, as the fabric can be reinterpretated in numerous interior design and collecting projects: wall decorations, framing elements, cushions, furnishing accessories, sartorial creations.
The timeless charm of Fornasetti makes these fabrics interesting for collectors and enthusiasts of Italian design of the twentieth century.
The condition is good: no stains, no tears. The colors are slightly faded by time, in the upper part, as seen in the photos, though it is difficult to reproduce the colors exactly.
