Description from the seller

Elegant Deruta maiolica tea service, consisting of six cups with their matching saucers, entirely handmade according to the Umbrian ceramic tradition.

The service is made of white-glazed majolica and is enriched by a refined cobalt blue decoration, executed by hand, consisting of a continuous ornamental motif of swirls, sprigs and stylized floral elements. The decoration runs along the central band of the cups and the various elements of the set, while the saucers feature a richer ornamental border.
Particularly characteristic is the shape of the cups, with soft, rounded lines, shaped handles and richly decorated, echoed also by the teapot, the sugar bowl and the milk jug. The lids are finished with small turned knobs, also decorated in blue.

The ensemble very much reflects the tradition of Deruta’s artistic ceramics, one of the most important Italian centers of maiolica, famous for decorative pieces characterized by vivid colors and ornament repertoires of Renaissance derivation.

A striking set, particularly pleasing both for use and as a collectible object, thanks to the richness of the decoration and the typical Derutese artisanal workmanship.

Composition:
6 teacups
6 coordinated saucers
1 teapot
1 milk jug
1 sugar bowl

Excellent condition.

Seller's Story

My name is Riccardo. I recently graduated in Art History from the University of Florence and I am passionate about porcelain. From tableware to artistic vases, from figurines to tea and coffee sets, I am fascinated by the mastery and creativity of great artisans and designers who manage to shape this fragile material, transforming a rough mass into masterpieces with a story to tell. During my years at university I began to become interested in the history of nineteenth- and twentieth-century tableware; today, every day, I deal with prestigious porcelain pieces that always have something to say to me and to those who purchase them. I love that every day I can discover more about the objects I find while traveling around Italy, always learning something new. I always try to convey to my clients this passion I have for the objects I sell, certain that each of them has a story to tell: that of the creator, that of the one who preserved it, and that of the person who will give it a new life.
