Antique solid wood dressing mirror from Italy dating to 1850–1900, with a rectangular base, a practical drawer, and a tilting mirror set in a carved frame, supported by turned side columns, external dimensions 58 × 45 × 24 cm (H × W × D) and internal 50 × 35 cm; in good used condition with light signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Solid wood freestanding dresser mirror (or "psyche" dressing mirror) finely worked, complete with a drawer.
Rectangular box-base equipped with a practical pull-out drawer with a central wooden knob and geometric inlay decoration on the front.
Tilting mirror enclosed in a thick fluted wooden frame.
The frame is supported at the sides by two small columns with elegant barley-twist (rocchetto) turning.
Decorative classic element designed to be placed above a dresser, a console table, or a bedroom vanity.
Dating to the second half of the nineteenth century (roughly 1860–1890), it falls between the Louis-Philippe / Eclecticism period and the Umbertine Style.
The barley-twist columns were indeed very common in Italian artisanal production in the second half of the 19th century.
Another classic late-19th-century eclectic decorative motif can be found on the front of the drawer.
