Description from the seller
Rare Expo 58 tripod plant table – Royco – Belgium – 1950s
Description
Rare and authentic Belgian retro plant table from the Expo 58 period, executed in the characteristic modernist formal language of the late 1950s.
The small table features a characteristic triangular wooden top with rounded corners, covered with red artificial leather and finished with a black edge. The elegant tripod base is made of black-painted wire steel, with the typically slanted legs that give the furniture its pronounced fifties and Atomic Age look.
On the underside of the tabletop the piece is marked “Royco” (see detail photo). This original marking is still clearly present.
The interplay of the bright red top, the organic triangular shape, and the minimalist black base makes this a particularly decorative example of Belgian mid-century design from the period around Expo 58 in Brussels.
The table is in authentic, unrestored vintage condition, with signs of aging and wear consistent with its age. It is precisely this preserved patina that contributes to its original character. See the photos for an accurate impression of the condition.
Period: circa 1958
Origin: Belgium
Marking: Royco, underside of the tabletop
Materials: wood, red artificial leather, black edge and black-painted wire steel
