Description from the seller
Chinese Ceramics by Ernest Grandidier - Richly illustrated with 42 heliogravure plates by Dujardin reproducing 124 pieces from the author's collection - Oriental Porcelain: Date of discovery, Explanation of decorative motifs, varied uses, Classification - Paris, Firmin-Didot & Cie, 1894 -
Ernest Grandidier's collection of Chinese ceramics constitutes one of the richest sets preserved in the West. Formed more than a century ago, it numbers about 6,000 pieces, some of which are jewels of Chinese art. It seems that by giving the Louvre Museum a large part of his collection in 1894, he wished to align himself with the principles that animated him throughout his life.
By publishing "La Céramique chinoise", the fruit of his experience and knowledge, he anticipated by roughly a decade all the other publications, whether by S. W. Bushell, R. L. Hobson, or E. Zimmermann -
Brown skyvertex binding, smooth spine titled in gold, 232 pages of text, folio size: 26.5 x 33.5 cm -
Table of contents: see photos - Very beautiful copy in Very good condition -
