AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Description for auction

Small foot of Roman bronze furniture, in the form of a shaped foot/shoe – centuries I–III AD.

Interesting element cast in copper/bronze alloy, modeled as a small foot or human boot, with the toe forward, heel marked and a short vertical section that ends in a flat circular surface.

Probably part of a composite object, functioning as a foot or decorative terminal of a small chest, container, stand or furniture element. The use of human and animal legs as ornamental supports is well documented in furniture and domestic objects of the Roman world.

It presents a homogeneous dark archaeological patina and surface wear in keeping with its age.

Proposed chronology: Roman Empire, 1st–3rd centuries AD.
Material: bronze / copper alloy.
Dimensions: 21 × 20 × 11 mm.
Condition: good archaeological conservation.
