Willy Ronis and Paris? The tender story of a love never denied, as strong as on the first day, nearly a century ago... Born in 1910 in the 9th arrondissement, the artist has indeed never ceased photographing his city and the daily life of its inhabitants. This work, undertaken from the 1930s, covers all aspects of Parisian life. Delving into his archives, Willy Ronis unearthed numerous unpublished images that he organized into sequences: the Seine and its banks where people fish for roach, the street, the night, the bistros, Parisians at work, the Halles district, the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Rue de la Huchette... His selection ends with the city of today, the recent sectors and his preferred arrondissements. Fifty years after the publication of Belleville-Ménilmontant, his cult book on the capital, the photographer returned to roam his quarter in search of lost Paris. Here, as around the Canal Saint-Martin, the metropolis still carries the scent of the provinces. Honored in 1979 by the Grand Prix national des Arts et Lettres for photography, Willy Ronis’s work bears witness to a subtle art of framing and light that inspires rigorous, distanced, and singularly melodic compositions.
Fast and very neat shipping. (Cardboard and bubble wrap. Protected corners). Possibility of hand delivery/pickup in Paris.
