French Colonies. 2 Sous 1789-A "Colonie de Cayenne". Fautée avec erreur de légende "Louis VXI"

Rarest! (3 catalogued specimens) 2 sous from Cayenne – 1789 A – Louis XVI – variety with legend error "LOUIS VXI" French Guiana, 1789 A, struck in Paris. Obverse: misspelled legend LOUIS VXI R. DE FR. ET DE NAV., instead of LOUIS XVI. This legend error is listed by Jean Lecompte under reference LEC. 21 var. The only other specimen of this variety that has appeared at auction was offered by Gadoury, Monaco, on December 6, 2014, lot 444. The coin offered here is all the more remarkable for its condition, perhaps the finest specimen put up for sale known of the variant LEC. 21 var. The photos attest to the coin’s condition. All my coins are authentic and come from my personal collection.
