Description from the seller

Unique medieval bronze pectoral cross.
Early Medieval Period 1100-1400 AD.

This cross belongs to the category of early pectoral crosses that were worn over one's clothing as a sign of faith and an amulet. Its shape is not arbitrary; the central quatrefoil element symbolizes the unity of faith and the spread of the Gospel to the four corners of the earth. The distinctive circular terminals at the ends of the arms are often interpreted as symbols of the Apostles or as representations of "enlightenment" through the light of the Christian faith. The patina of age covering the bronze lends it a noble, historic appearance, bearing witness to its long journey through the centuries.

The cross features a distinct central square section and four arms terminating in neat discs. The original suspension loop—made of the same metal—remains intact on the upper arm, allowing the cross to be worn on a cord.
