Description from the seller
Elegant and complete English coffee service by W.H. Grindley, model “Old Chelsea,” made in Staffordshire, one of the most important English ceramic regions.
The service stands out for its refined multicolored floral decoration, distributed on a white background: branches, leaves, small flowers and berries are outlined in brown and enriched with touches of red, blue, yellow and pink, creating a particularly rich yet balanced overall effect. The motif, of traditional English taste, evokes the world of porcelain and 18th-century floral ceramics, reinterpreted through the language of industrial production in Staffordshire.
The shape of the cups is elegant and harmonious, with shaped handles and a slightly undulating profile; saucers and serving pieces also feature a delicate border and a modeling that contribute to the refined appearance of the whole.
The service includes:
-tea pot with lid
-sugar bowl
-milk jug
-6 cups with corresponding saucers
W.H. Grindley & Co. was a Staffordshire manufacturer founded in Tunstall in 1880, in the heart of the Stoke-on-Trent ceramic district. Production focused mainly on tableware intended also for everyday use, with particular attention to the robustness of ironstone and the possibility of offering elaborate decorations at affordable prices. The manufacturer remained active until 1991.
