Description from the seller
Description:
Kohoku (湖北) is a Japanese photography book by photographer Tatsuo Kondo (近藤龍夫), published by Nippon Camera-sha in 1977.
The book is devoted to the Kohoku region around northern Lake Biwa, presenting Kondo’s atmospheric black-and-white photography of the landscape, people, and everyday life of the area.
Kondo was closely associated with photographer Hiroshi Hamaya, and his photography is noted for its subdued, distinctly Japanese atmosphere, often emphasizing cloudy weather, shadow, rural landscapes, and quiet scenes of daily life. The photographs in Kohoku are considered closely related in spirit to the documentary tradition represented by Hamaya’s work. MADE IN WONDER / メイド・イン・ワンダー
This copy bears a brush-written signature by Tatsuo Kondo on an interior page, making it particularly interesting for collectors of postwar Japanese photography and signed Japanese photobooks.
The volume is presented as a hardcover book with its original slipcase.
