Description from the seller
Neoclassical chalice – Alexis Renaud – Paris, 1831-1838 – Silver, 1st fineness
Beautiful French liturgical chalice from the Restoration era, in neoclassical style, made in Paris between 1831 and 1838.
The solid silver cup, first title (950/1000), features a vermeil interior.
It rests on an elegant oval-knotted stem, adorned with palmettes and foliate motifs.
Important circular stepped foot, richly worked with spear-shaped leaves, cross-hatching, palmette friezes and scrolling vegetal motifs, in the neoclassical taste of the first half of the 19th century in silvered metal.
The cup bears the French Paris hallmarks: Paris Jaeger mark? Vieillard, first title (950/1000), Paris 1819-1838; Paris assay master mark, 1819-1838; master maker mark Alexis Renaud: “A. RENAUD” in a horizontal diamond, scales above and a five-pointed star below.
Alexis Renaud, a Parisian silversmith specialized notably in liturgical objects, had his hallmark struck in 1831. The crossing of his mark with the 1st title and assay marks allows dating this piece between 1831 and 1838.
Overall good condition, with slight signs of use, small scratches and wear to the gilding compatible with its age, without major visible alterations.
The photos are an integral part of the item description and complement its presentation. Please examine them carefully before placing a bid.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped with a tracking number, to ensure fast and secure delivery.
