Description from the seller
Ceremonial Masonic dagger – Symbolism of the high grades
Beautiful ceremonial dagger with rich Masonic decoration, presenting a remarkably interesting set of symbols related to initiatory tradition and Masonic high degrees.
The guard is adorned with numerous Fleur-de-Lys motifs.
The blade is engraved on one face with several Masonic symbols, notably the Eye in the Triangle, the Square and Compasses, as well as the Blazing Star, accompanied by vegetal motifs representing a sprig of acacia.
On the other face of the blade there is an engraving depicting the Skull positioned at the center of the square and compasses, a strong symbol of Freemasonry, particularly present in the third degree, a traditional motif of Masonic symbolism.
The Square: It symbolizes matter, Earth, rectitude, and the moral rule that helps correct our earthly actions.
The Compasses: It represents the spirit, the sky, measure, and the infinite or cosmic ideal.
The skull (or cranium): It embodies memento mori (“remember you will die”). It recalls the transience of material life, the vanity of earthly honors, and the necessity to detach from the illusions of the world.
The whole is completed by a decorated sheath.
Special feature
Because of its ceremonial character, its particularly rich symbolic decoration, and the presence of several Masonic emblems, this dagger is traditionally associated with use within the framework of the higher grades of Freemasonry. It thus constitutes a particularly interesting piece for collectors of Masonic objects and for enthusiasts of initiatory symbolism.
Condition: good overall condition
