Description from the seller

Antique large devotional pendant in silver filigree with hand-painted miniature – 18th/19th century

Elegant and rare large devotional religious pendant, made of silver with elaborate hand-made filigree work and hand-painted ceramic, probably from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century.

The structure, particularly rich, is composed of thin silver wires worked with vegetal and floral motifs, with branches, leaves and small flowers applied to form a pierced frame around the central medallion. The workmanship presents the characteristic light and finely chiseled appearance of traditional filigree.

On the front is inserted a polychrome miniature depicting a religious subject, the Baptism of Christ, with Saint John the Baptist baptizing Jesus in the waters of the Jordan. The scene is painted with delicate colors in shades of blue, red, green and pink.

The reverse features an oval gold-relief medallion depicting the Madonna with Child, surrounded by the same refined filigree frame.

At the top there is a large counter-staine also decorated in filigree, which allows the piece to be worn as a pendant. The substantial size and the richness of the workmanship suggest a devotional object also intended to have a strong ornamental function.

The silver retains a beautiful antique patina, with natural signs of oxidation, wear and small marks compatible with its age and with delicate artisanal workmanship. Note possible small deformations or missing filigree elements visible in the photographs, to be considered part of the object's history.

An interesting example of popular religious goldsmithing, particularly decorative and collectible, interesting both as an antique jewel and as a devotional object.

Material: silver, hand-painted ceramic
Technique: filigree, pierced work and relief
Origin: Italy

Conditions: good relative to age, with patina, oxidation and normal signs of use; please examine the photographs carefully, which are an integral part of the description.
