Origin: Chokwe people – Angola / DR Congo
Era: First half of the 20th century, ca. 1920–1950
Material: Carved wood, metal and hair/animal fiber
Dimensions: 32 × 12 × 13 cm

Female figure belonging to the Chokwe sculptural tradition, carved in dark-toned wood. It presents a distinctive elaborate hairstyle of great volume, a face with stylized features and a standing body with hands placed over the abdomen.

Notably the ornamentation with numerous copper-toned metal tacks distributed over the hairstyle, forehead and torso, as well as decorative metal bands on the neck and wrists. It also preserves an application of hair or animal fiber on the back area.

An interesting piece of Central African tribal art, characterized by the combination of wood carving and metallic ornamental elements.

Condition: Good general condition for its age, with wear, small losses and a patina of use.
