Description from the seller
Hutchinson Cleaning Plaque "Le Rémouleur"
Old Hutchinson advertising plaque (cleaning plaque) 1950/55 – Bicycle Velomotor Motorcycle Scooter – Philippault
The character of the sharpener "Sam" and his dog Floc were created in the great advertising campaign by Mich (Michel Liebeaux) in the early 20th century.
Hutchinson is a French company founded in 1853 in Châlette-sur-Loing, near Montargis, by Hiram Hutchinson, an American entrepreneur settled in France. He then exploited vulcanization techniques of rubber and began, notably, with rubber shoes and boots under the brand "À l’Aigle".
The company would then greatly diversify its activities: industrial rubber, automotive, aeronautics, seals, hoses, anti‑vibration systems, etc.
Hutchinson and cycling
It is in 1890 that Hutchinson began manufacturing tires for bicycles. This activity would become extremely important for the brand.
As early as 1909, Hutchinson achieved an important initial victory in competition with cyclist Léon Georget, equipped with the "Monofil" tire. The brand then became associated with many great champions and with the Tour de France.
In the 1950s, for example, Louison Bobet won three consecutive Tours de France with Hutchinson tires (1953, 1954 and 1955), then Jacques Anquetil won the Tour in 1957 with Hutchinson
"H. PHILIPPAULT – MONTREUIL"
