Christofle - André Bouilhet - Elias Baeck - Coaster - Noël 1979 / New Year 1980 - anamorphic composition - Silverplated - Bottle holder

Christofle – Exclusive Noël 1979 / New Year 1980 Silver-Plated Paperweight – "Europe" after Elias Baeck – Signed Bouilhet

An original and highly collectible Christofle silver-plated paperweight / Bottle holder issued as the Maison's exclusive Christmas and New Year gift for Noël 1979 / 1980.

Unlike Christofle's regular production, this piece was never intended for retail sale. It was presented exclusively to selected business partners and representatives of the prestigious French silversmith.

The circular paperweight/ Plate features an engraved anamorphic composition inspired by an original 18th-century engraving by the German artist Elias Baeck (1679–1749). The engraved inscription explains that the hidden image becomes visible when viewed through a cylindrical mirror, revealing the allegorical figure of Europa.

The piece bears the engraved facsimile signature of André Bouilhet, then President of Christofle, together with the Christofle France hallmark and silverplate marks.

The reverse retains its original felt base, confirming its intended use as an elegant desk paperweight or can be used as a bottle holder.

A fascinating combination of decorative art, optical illusion and Christofle history, highly sought after by collectors of the Maison's annual presentation gifts.
