Bronze Age arrowhead pair in good condition, two bronze arrowheads with triangular blades, mid-rib and tangs, left L 12.4 cm × W 2.3 cm and right L 12.6 cm × W 2.8 cm, patination and earthly encrustations, provenance Ex London Collection, authentic original, circa 1200–600 BC.
Description from the seller
A fine pair of Bronze Age arrowheads featuring triangular blades with a prominent mid-rib and a short stem leading to a narrow tang. One arrowhead has square shoulders and a shorter tang, whilst the other displays sharp downward-sloping barbs. Patination and earthly encrustations to the surface. Minor chips to the edges of the blades and barbs.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the Western Asiatic area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Archaeological evidence suggests that the bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
Measurements: Left, L 12.4cm x W 2.3cm; Right, L 12.6cm x W 2.8cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
