Bronze Age arrowhead pair made of bronze in good condition, circa 1200–600 BC, with one arrowhead featuring square shoulders and the other downward-sloping barbs, left measurements 15.2 cm by 2.5 cm and right 16 cm by 2.8 cm, patinated with earthly encrustations and edge chips, authenticity original/official and provenance Ex. London Collection, acquired 2000.
Description from the seller
A pair of Bronze Age arrowheads featuring triangular blades with a prominent mid-rib and a short stem leading to a narrow tang. One arrowhead has square shoulders, whilst the other displays sharp downward-sloping barbs. Patination and earthly encrustations to the surface. Chips to the edges of the blades and barbs. The arrowhead with elongated blade is chipped and warped on one side near the tip, creating a serrated patch.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the Western Asiatic area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Archaeological evidence suggests that the bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
Measurements: Left L 15.2cm x W 2.5cm; Right L 16cm x W 2.8cm
Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.
