Description from the seller

Vase zigzag model from his own studio for Makkum by Jan van der Vaart.

In good, near-new condition but with a chip at the foot and the underside shows a crack line from the firing process.
Heavy piece with a glossy black glaze and tall form, 31 cm high and 12 cm wide.

Well signed with the wheel and van der Vaart, 79.

See the accompanying photos to judge for yourself.

In November 2000, Jan van der Vaart died, one of the Netherlands' leading ceramists. A pioneer, an innovator, an influential mentor, but above all a gifted designer and maker of functional and autonomous ceramics. His work is very recognizable. If one were to describe it, words like sleek, geometric, architectural would be used. Among his best-known designs are the impressive tulip towers that can be built from separate elements to well over one meter high. In 2025, twenty-five years after his death, the Princessehof has made his studio digitally accessible in a 360-degree environment. At the Kunstmuseum Den Haag a large retrospective is on view, and the kunstboeken foundation Cometa presents a special publication.
