Pair of antique Chinese carved and pierced wooden stands in dark exotic wood, dating to circa 1850–1900, each 28 cm square, in good used condition with minor ageing signs and finish wear.
Description from the seller
Pair of small Chinese carved and pierced wooden stands - c. 1900.
Pair of small supports or stands for pots and decorative objects, made in dark-toned exotic wood, probably Chinese rosewood or hongmu.
They feature lowered circular tops, surrounded by carved friezes with foliage. The waists are richly worked and pierced with flowers, vegetal scrolls, geometric reserves and stylized motifs. Each stand rests on three elegant curved legs, ending in scroll feet.
The shape and pierced work bring these pieces closer to Chinese stands for pots and floral arrangements produced at the end of the Qing dynasty and during the early Republican period.
- Origin: China
- Era: late 19th / early 20th century, approximately 1890–1930
- Style: Oriental; export Chinese; late Qing dynasty
- Materials: carved and pierced exotic wood, probably Chinese rosewood or hongmu
- Composition: two pieces
- Dimensions of each: 28 × 28 × 28 cm
Condition: good overall, considering age. They show patina, finish wear and small flaws in the carved elements. Felt pads placed on the feet subsequently.
