Description from the seller
Castello di Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2016 (etichetta un po' rovinata)
DESCRIPTION:
Producer: Castello di Banfi
Wine: Brunello di Montalcino
Vintage: 2016
Number of Bottles: 5
Size: 0,75L
Grapes: 100% Sangiovese
Aging: It matures for two years, with 50% in French oak casks (60–90 hl) and 50% in French oak barriques (3.5 hl)
Alc.: 14%
Banfi works primarily with the southern slopes of Montalcino the warmest sites, characterized by clay soils. The result is a Sangiovese that is fleshier and broader than the Brunellos from the north, which originate on *galestro* (marl) soils and tend to be more vertical in profile. Here, one finds rich fruit and breadth, alongside the structure expected of the appellation. The 2020 vintage offered excellent ripeness, resulting in already rounded tannins; the wine is ready to drink now but also has the potential for several years of cellaring. It displays a deep ruby hue transitioning toward garnet. The nose opens with notes of sour cherry and plum, shifting to dried violet, leather, tobacco, and a balsamic undertone. On the palate, it is broad yet compact, featuring dense yet polished tannins and acidity that holds the sip together, leading to a long finish of dark fruit and spice.
